The Kilpin Beer Cafe

Address : 10 Bridlesmith Walk, Nottingham, NG1 2HB

Herbert Kilpin. An unassuming name, perhaps. But this son of a butcher from Mansfield Road left Nottingham and went on to found AC Milan. And we rather like that. The pub itself sits alongside its hipster cousin, The Junkyard, but we’ll leave that for other websites to discuss…

On the bar you’ll find a few handpulls, including the bar’s house cask ale, but this place definitely veers in the direction of craft. Well, as a beer cafe you’d probably expect that, and the drinks menu is so extensive it has to be listed on a clipboard.

There’s plenty of room in the upstairs seating area, which has a clean and modern feel to it. The courtyard at the front of the pub is useful enough, nicely sheltered down the alley from the main road on Fletcher Gate. There’s also access to the much bigger outdoor terrace which is shared with Junkyard

Music? Nope.

Food? A good menu of small plates and hearty dishes are on offer, with the cuisine veering towards the gastro pub market. You can find cheaper eats around here but the quality if pretty good for the price.

People? Couples, sensible groups, hipsters who’ve walked through the wrong door.

Opinion? A big contrast to the Junkyard, and all the better for it. The Kilpin doesn’t excel in real ale like some other places, but the atmosphere and service makes up for it.

Getting here? NCT Green, Blue and Turquoise City Loop lines to Fletcher Gate. NET Trams to Lace Market
