Pierrepont Rd, West Bridgford, Nottingham NG2 5DX.
There’s some strong competition in and around West Bridgford, but the Poppy and Pint – the Former Lady Bay Royal British Legion – packs an extra punch that arguably beats the rest, winning Nottingham CAMRA Pub of the Year in 2017, and coming runner up in 2018.
A large central bar features a dozen or so real cask choices, with plenty from the Castle Rock stable and an interesting range of guest beers. There are separate areas for dining and a cafe style bar offering coffees and cakes.
The upstairs function room features a regular programme of music events attracting some big names such as Nick Heyward, John Otway and Chris Difford.
Music? Yes – a strong feature of the upstairs function room as mentioned above – meaning downstairs is relatively quiet. Along with one off gigs, there are regular Jazz and Folk clubs
Food? A full Castle Rock menu of pub grub and Sunday Roasts, along with lighter snacks and cake. Yes, cake!
People? Plenty of Lady Bay locals here – but folk travel from all over to sample the lively and friendly atmosphere. There’s parking too, if you don’t fancy the trek
Opinion? In a relatively short space of time (since 2011), Castle Rock has built up a pub with a reputation for friendly staff and a clean environment. It ticks a lot of boxes – which is handy, because it’s quite a walk to the next decent boozer.
