Arguably the city area’s original micro-pub, The Barrel Drop is passing into the hands of new owners…

The founder and current owner Chris posted a message on the pub’s Facebook page:

“After what has been a turbulent year, I have made the decision in the best interest of the pub (and my sanity) to hand over the pub to a fantastic local brewery. From next week the Barrel Drop will be under the skillful ownership of Magpie Brewery. They are committed to the original ethos of the Barrel Drop and I’m positive will take the pub from strength to strength with great beers and variety. “

Magpie Brewery currently runs its own tap house The Crafty Crow, so we already know their excellent pedigree. However, the Barrel Drop is a very different proposition, so it’ll be interesting to see how things progress.

The new opening days will be Thursdays from 5pm, and Fridays and Saturdays from noon.
