Brew Tavern

Address : Cabman’s  Shelter, 1a Queen’s  Road, Nottingham, NG2 3AS

The micropub business in Nottingham has been booming in recent years. Some have prospered, others have fallen by the wayside. And that looked to be the case for the former BeerHeadz venue by Nottingham station – until a city centre bottle shop took it over.

The result is Brew Cavern : set in an historic building that used to be a shelter for cab drivers waiting for train passengers to arrive. The bar is an array of handpulls and keg taps, all with a hugely rotating selection of craft beers. There’s rarely a traditional ale on sale, but almost always something for all tastes – including a wide variety of bottles, can and ciders.

Like many micropubs, this one is cosy – but cleverly designed tables, plus plenty of places to hang your coat has created a great space to wait for your train or contemplate the next place on your pub crawl.

Music? Nope. There’s just beer.

Food? Crisps, nuts. But mainly beer.

People? Those that like beer. Have you actually been reading anything we’ve said?

Opinion? This is a cosy bolt hole in an otherwise booze free station (unless you count Pumpkin, which we don’t). It’s a great place to meet arriving visitors to town, and takes on a special feeling when there’s rain lashing against the windows

Getting here : NCT Green and Blue lines, Trent Barton Cotgrave, Villager, Keyworth and Mainline – all to Carrington Street. Nottingham Station (East Midlands, Cross Country and Northern services, NET Tram)
