Up until 2015, The Embankment was something of a museum piece – formerly the Boots Social Club in desperate need of some love and attention. Step forward Castle Rock brewery, who spent a pretty penny on reviving this magnificent old building into a drinking centre of excellence.
The Dispensary Bar – paying homage to the Boots history, has a rolling stock of real ales and craft beers, listed on an electronic sign that looks more like an airport departures board. Such is the range you’ll be spoilt for choice.
The pub sprawls across a second, main bar – then a conservatory and smaller rooms. Basically, you’ll know it’s a good night if you can’t find a seat.

Music? Occasional bands but more likely you’ll be entertained by the live sport in the main bar.
Food? Brunch, lunch and dinner on offer across a wide ranging pub grub menu.
People? This place has established itself as something of a destination venue, so expect a real mix of ale lovers, Meadows locals and West Bridgford types being gently guided north of the river.
Opinion? It’s hard to find fault with the Embankment. On quieter evenings you might have the whole place to yourself. But even at the busiest of times, the staff are friendly and courteous. That counts for a lot.
