Address : 17 Meadow Lane, Nottingham, NG2 3HS.
On your first visit, the Trent Navigation may well test your own navigation skills. Nestled between Notts County’s Meadow Lane ground and a sea of industrial units, it’d be all too easy to think you’re taken a very bad wrong turn. If you’re coming from London Road, use the canal footbridge rather than the main road.
On the bar you’ll be welcomed with a good selection of real ales. Sadly, at the time of writing, the Navigation Brewery which used to be on site has ceased production. But the ales, craft beers and ciders are all kept well..
Live sport features heavily here, with the former beer garden now transformed into a lively fan zone venue called The Big Shed, showing major games, often accompanied by local bands and musicians.
Events : A twice weekly pub quiz will provide some exercise for the brain, while The Big Shed is now firmly established as a raucous place to watch live sport and have a dance. Booking is advised for the biggest games
Food : A large pub grub menu is mixed with regular offers and weekly theme nights. Cold cobs are also available if you fancy something lighter.
People : Depending on who’s playing at home, both Nottingham Forest and Notts County fans gather here before and after games. Otherwise it’s a mix of real ale lovers, families and sports fans.
Opinion : Well worth a diversion, with a consistently good pint and friendly staff. Start or finish here for a wider pub trail around Trent Bridge.
How to get here: NCT Green lines, Trent Barton Mainline, Villager, Keyworth and Cotgrave lines – all to Trent Bridge (5 min walk)
