The likes of the Organ Grinder, the Falcon and even the old grand-daddy, the Sir John Borlase Warren, will soon have some additional competition in the form of a micro-pub. Thebusinessdesk.com confirms the City Council has given planning permission to Totally Brewed to convert a former fancy dress shop into a new outlet.
It’ll be the second venture for the brewery which opened Totally Tapped in Beeston earlier this year. It’s craft beers have so far been well received, and are already stocked at a number of Castle Rock pubs.
Just like in Beeston, it’s entering a market where there are already several well established pubs. NottsNight’s Canning Circus Trail recommends no fewer than six pubs – and there are at least three other bars which we we’d rather not mention. And that’s not the only similarity. Totally Tapped opened just a few streets away from A Pottle of Blues; Canning Circus already has a micro-pub in the form of A Room With A Brew.
There’s still no opening date confirmed for the new outlet. The fancy dress shop has been closed for more than a year, but from what we can see little work has been done on converting it so far. The planning application lists the widest possible range of opening hours – from 9am-11pm each day – but that’s likely to be a general “safety net” for when the owners eventually apply for a booze licence.
NottsNight will keep you posted on its progress.
